Mayor agrees to testify on fund-raising

(Published April 22, 2002)

Mayor Anthony A. Williams says he plans to honor the D.C. City Council’s request that he testify May 1 at a public hearing regarding details of questionable and illegal private fund-raising activities carried out by members of his staff.

The hearing will be held at 10 a.m. in the Wilson Building’s council chamber before the Committee on Government Operations, chaired by Ward 5 Councilman Vincent Orange.

In March, Inspector General Charles Maddox referred findings of his year-long probe of the mayor’s office to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for further investigation.
