Condos to replace old Giant supermarket
(Published April 3, 2006)

One of the largest residential buildings in Columbia Heights is planned for the site of the old Giant Food store that was closed last year when the company opened a new supermarket near the Tivoli Theater.

A town hall meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. April 5 at Tubman Elementary School, 3101 13th St. NW, at which representatives from Metro Properties Inc. will present their plans for the 315-unit condominium building. The meeting is being sponsored by Councilman Jim Graham, D-Ward 1, and Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner Calvin Woodland, who support the project.

Underground parking for 246 vehicles is planned as part of the project at 3460 14th St. NW. Lots behind the old store also will be developed.

Construction is expected to be completed in 2008.
